Building Internal Foresight Capability
Equipping a team to run foresight on its own, so the capability outlasts any single engagement.
Role
Project Lead
Context and objective
A habit, not a service
An institution wanted foresight to become an internal habit rather than a service it bought each time a question arose. The objective was to build the muscle inside the team, to hand over not a report but a way of thinking, so the organisation could see further on its own.
The logic was simple: a team that owns its own foresight will actually use it. Success looked like genuine independence, a team fluent enough to run the work without an outside hand.
Approach and key insights
How the work unfolded
As Project Lead, I designed and delivered the programme end to end, starting from an honest assessment of the team's current practice, appetite, and planning rhythm. I ran modular, hands-on training built around real, sector-relevant cases rather than theory, and worked directly with the team to build custom templates for trend libraries and opportunity mapping that they could keep using. I facilitated throughout, then stepped back deliberately, leaving post-workshop resources and a shared method the team owned outright.
The insight running through the work was that tools travel better than reports, that fluency comes from doing rather than watching, and that foresight only sticks when it plugs into the planning cycles a team already has.
